Edward James Merriman,T he Governor of Pleasantville, lives with his family on
Bluebell Way in a large Colonial house which is the pride of Pleasantville. Edward runs the town general store, which
sells spices and fruits from faraway countries, cloth, tea, coffee, toys and just about anything you can name! Edward enjoys
playing checkers or chess with his son, and occasionally playing a gentlemanly game of cards with his friends at card parties.
Lily Margaret Merriman is
one of the most respected women in Pleasantville for her grace and manners, and her very good children. Lily comes from
a wealthy family in Williamsburg and was brought up as a seamstress. She makes clothes for Violet's Clothes Boutique,
and she also writes the "Household Management" column in the Pleasantville Gazette.
Felicity Ann Merriman, age 16, enjoys riding her horse Penny above all else. When
she is not horseriding, she likes to cook and study, as she is first chair in the Pleasant Heights High School. Felicity
takes great pride in her younger sisters, and enjoys playing with them. She also plays the flute and teaches flute lessons
to Elinor Wilson and Britta Larson.
Nancy Andrea Merriman, age 12, is a very independent soul. Nan loves to play
her piano, day and night, playing the classics and the unknowns, and composing a lot of her own music to play with her friends
on New Year's Eve. Nancy loves reptiles, and raised a young snake under her bed for 3 years without the rest of the
household knowing it. Now she likes to play outdoor games with her younger brother, William.
William Edward Merriman, age 10, is the heir to the Merriman fortune. He grew
up in Williamsburg recieving a fine education, and has since come to Pleasantville to help his family. William enjoys
reading, writing, and arithmatic, and he can't wait to start learning Greek and Latin. He also likes to fish, and to
write poetry to send to the newspaper.
Rachel Virginia Merriman, age 9, is the youngest of the Merriman children.
She wants more than anything to be like her mother, and so she spends her days studying proper manners and sewing. She
always wants to be fashionable and can't wait to go to the Hair Salon. But she also loves playing dolls with her older
sister Felicity, and making clothes for her dolls.
